REACT Technology Mimics the Automotive Crumple Zone
One of the most effective innovations in automotive safety is the crumple zone--the area of the vehicle that deforms and crumples upon impact, absorbing energy from the impact and preventing force from being transmitted to the vehicle's occupants. Foonf's Rapid Energy-Absorbing Crumple Technology (REACT) borrows that principle and institutes it in the car seat in forward-facing mode.
In a collision, the vehicle usually comes to an abrupt stop, but the occupants continue to move at the speed before impact. With the REACT safety system, an aluminum honeycomb crumples upon impact and allows the sudden change in momentum to occur over a longer period of time, resulting in less force transferred to the child. The REACT safety system reduces force transmitted to a forward-facing child in a frontal collision by up to 40 percent.*
Rear-Facing and Side-Impact Safety Systems
For optimal stability in the rear-facing position, Foonf includes an anti-rebound bar at the foot that braces against the car's backseat. In a collision, the bar limits rotation of the child seat, helping to protect your child's head from impact.
The Foonf has a rigid substructure of steel and magnesium within a series of EEP foam layers. The frame features a rigid metal substructure and a headrest with deep side wings lined with energy-absorbing foam, providing optimal protection in a side-impact collision.

Highly recommended, but a few issues for early adopters
IN A HURRY? JUST READ THIS
I am very pleased with this car seat due to the strong (steel and magnesium) frame and, most importantly, the longevity of the seat for rear-facing, which is much safer in a crash than forward-facing. It was easy to install DESPITE the somewhat lacking manual and fits well in the center of our Honda Civic's backseat. I can even still see out the windows. For this price, though, I have to take off a star for some inconveniences and minor issues (e.g. difficulty in reaching harness release button, poor manual) that will hopefully be corrected in future versions. Had I not needed a convertible seat so soon, I would not have been an early adopter of the first run. I will update this over the next several months with further thoughts.
Regardless of which seat you choose, I HIGHLY recommend that anyone with a car seat get your installation checked by a CPS (Child Passenger Safety) technician. Many parents do not have their car seats properly...

Really cool but with some issues
I bought one of these and I was so excited for it to arrive. The car seat is absolutely gorgeous! It is VERY heavy. It weighs 40 lbs by itself, only a little less than my 6 year old child! So you do not want this if you have to move it around from vehicle to vehicle all the time.
I installed it in my 2009 Honda CR-V. I have a very tight 3-across situation in that vehicle and was excited to try something other than the Radian that is just as narrow. Unfortunately, if I installed it in the middle it would completely block my view out the rear window and over my shoulder. It did not block my view when installed on the passenger side.
The buckles and harness are very nice and easy/smooth to use and adjust. The car seat itself is extremely solid. The forward facing install with rigid latch is amazing! I actually liked it as a forward facing seat better, but couldn't justify the price for just a forward facing seat, since I was looking specifically for extended rear...

6. Narrow seat, can put seat in middle and have two normal sized adults fit on either side ( 2011 Subaru Outback).
7. It is easy to buckle your child in.

CONS
1. What is a PRO is also a CON, it is heavy. You do not want to be moving this thing from car to car.
2. Being the most expensive car seat on the market, the manual is not befitting of this seat. It is on the small size, making it hard to see the illustrations.
